AWS A/SFA- 5.4 E 2209-16: It is a rutile basic coated electrodes giving 22.5Cr, 3.00 Mo, 0.12 N which has excellent corrosion resistant. It gives smooth arc, self removal of slag, least spatter and uniform weld bead. These electrodes give increased tensile strength with improved resistance to pitting corrosive attack and to stress corrosion. For example, stainless filler such as ER309 is technically a AWS A5.4 ER309 and a ASME SFA-5.4 ER309 Because few people actually state the A or SFA number when talking about consumables it generaly does not mean anything of value. If you walked into your LWS and asked for a AWS A5.1 or ASME SFA 5.1.
